Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin (1950–2018) was one of Ireland’s most visionary cultural figures. As a composer, pianist, ethnomusicologist, and founder of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, his life’s work reimagined the meeting points between Irish traditional music and contemporary classical form. His unique piano style, his pioneering compositions, and his role as an educator helped transform how Irish music is understood, taught, and celebrated— at home and around the world.
